Majolica Pieces
Many distinctive pieces of majolica pottery are in existence today. Learn about the various items that have been made since the mid-nineteenth century. Older items in perfect shape are difficult to find because the process used caused the clay to dry over time and become susceptible to chipping and cracking. Nevertheless, gorgeous, elaborate pieces are available, dating from the late 1800`s.
Motifs from nature were popular on plates, pitchers, vases, bowls, and planters. Many of the pieces are so beautiful that you may debate whether to actually use them or not. If you want unique pieces, take a look at a vintage tea set, a rare chamber stick candle holder, or an antique majolica pickle toothpick holder. Some beautiful pieces are not marked but may be found in reference books about specific majolica makers. Take a peek on eBay, and you'll probably find some majolica you can't live without!
